The Supreme Court of Canada is located at 301 Wellington Street in downtown Ottawa, next to the Parliament buildings.

Whether you’re headed to the Supreme Court of Canada to plead a case, to watch a hearing or to take a guided tour, this video will help you plan your trip to the Court.

The Supreme Court building is located at 301 Wellington Street in Ottawa. Here’s how to get here.

If you’re travelling by public transit on OC Transpo, take O-Train Line 1 and get off at Lyon station.

If you’re coming from Gatineau on a STO bus, there are bus stops for the Rapibus and multiple other lines outside of Lyon station, at the intersection of Queen and Lyon streets.

STO buses headed back to Gatineau stop on Wellington Street, near the Supreme Court building.

Pedestrians can access the Supreme Court via Wellington Street. The Court building is set back from the street by a large lawn.

Visitors and members of the public can enter through the main entrance at the front of the building. Counsel and those needing an accessible entrance can enter through the east entrance on the side of the building.

If you’re cycling to the Court, bike paths are available on many downtown streets. The Court also has racks to secure your bicycle.

If you’re driving to the Court, there are many paid parking lots in the downtown area.

Directions

  • 1. If you’re on the east side of the National Capital Region, head west on the Trans-Canada Highway, also known as the 417. If you’re on the west side, head east.
  • 2. Take the Metcalfe exit, number 119.
  • 3. After exiting, turn right onto Kent Street.
  • 4. Continue along Kent Street until you reach Wellington Street.
  • 5. Go straight through the traffic lights at Wellington Street.
  • 6. You’ll see the Supreme Court of Canada set back from Wellington Street by a large lawn on your left.

Security measures

You will be asked to go through a metal detector before entering the building. To facilitate this process, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the Court’s security screening procedures.

Parking information

There is no parking available at the Supreme Court of Canada, but there are a number of public and municipal parking lots located nearby.

Public transit

The Supreme Court of Canada is served by a number of public transit services. If you are travelling from Ottawa, please consult the OC Transpo website to learn about O-Train and bus routes. The nearest O-Train station is Lyon.

For routes and schedules from Gatineau, consult the Société de transport de l’Outaouais website.

Tour buses

There are drop-off areas along Wellington Street, and tour bus parking is available throughout the city.

Physical environment

Accessible parking spaces are available at the Supreme Court and the building is fully wheelchair accessible.

A ramp is located at the entrance along the east side of the building (entrance on the right-hand side when facing the building).

All public elevators and ramps are large enough to accommodate wheelchairs and motorized scooters.

To enrich your experience and understanding of the building, the Supreme Court provides a tactile scale model of our building and statues.

If you are joining us on a tour of the Supreme Court, our guide will provide written Braille materials to ensure that visitors with visual impairments can fully engage with the tour content.
