Electronic Filing Portal
The Electronic Filing Portal should be used for all filings with the exception of documents that are subject to a sealing or confidentiality order (Rule 23 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Canada). Please note that other provisions of Rule 19 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Canada continue to apply, including the requirement to file a print version of a document within 5 business days of the filing of the electronic version.
Getting started
Before you file any documents through the portal, you have to register as a user and provide a valid email address for validation by the Registry. You will then receive a secure link, valid for 8 hours, to register. If the link expires, you can request a new one. You will only have to register once.
After you have registered, you can request a secure link to file documents through the Electronic Filing Portal in either a new or existing proceeding, by entering your email address on the identification page. The secure link for filing will be sent via email and will be valid for 24 hours. You can request a new filing link if it expires.
Important note
The Electronic Filing Portal does not provide for service of documents on other parties. For information on the service of documents, see Rule 20 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Canada.
Refer to the Guidelines for preparing documents to be filed with the Supreme Court of Canada (Print and Electronic) for detailed filing requirements.
All filing deadlines apply to electronic filing. If you miss a filing deadline due to technical problems, you need to request an extension of time. There is no guarantee that an extension will be granted.
More information can be found in the Electronic Filing Portal.
